There are three classes of each grade. Maximum class size is 25 students.
The Middle School curriculum is sequential in all areas, and students are exposed to a wide variety of cross-curricular learning activities. Math, English, Literature, Science, Social Studies, and Religion are the core subjects. The students rotate among faculty members, each of whom has expertise in their subject. Courses in Pre-Algebra and Algebra are also offered to students in Grade 7 and 8. Grades 6-8 share an instructional aide.
Technology, Music, Physical Education, Art, and Foreign Language are additionally added to the weekly schedule. We follow the Archdiocese of Louisville Curriculum Framework , which is based on Core Content Standards.
Religion is taught on a daily basis. Students attend mass together each Thursday and on Holy Days. Students in seventh grade prepare for the sacrament of Confirmation. Students prepare special programs for our liturgies and participate as servers, lectors, cross-bearers, hospitality ministers, and vocalists.
Technology is encouraged as a tool for learning. Online access for parents and students to view progress reports is available through FACTS. The ability to view grades each week encourages open communication between student, parent, and teacher. Students also have Google Drive accounts to store and share documents with peers and teachers.
Special events for Middle School students include participation in Junior Achievement, guest speakers, pep rallies, Field Day, drama program, and more. Students also participate in a variety of field trips that in the past have included Stage One Theatre and JA Biztown.
Leadership opportunities are available for Middle School students. Middle School students are “buddies” with the younger students helping them to learn proper mass behavior and participation and joining in creative classroom activities to encourage friendships between the “buddies”.
